Advice Consultations

If you’re seeking clarity or direction about your child’s development or behaviour, I offer one-hour advice consultations tailored to your concerns.

Before our session, I will review any relevant reports you provide—such as those from your child’s nursery, school, or other professionals. This helps me build a fuller picture of your child’s strengths and areas of need.

During the consultation, we will:

  • Discuss your child’s developmental history and current challenges
  • Explore the type of support your child may benefit from across health, education, and other services
  • Outline any further assessments that may be appropriate, including diagnostic pathways where needed

Following the session, you will receive a clear and concise summary report highlighting the key points discussed and my recommendations.

This consultation is often a helpful first step for families unsure about what support or assessment their child may need

ADHD Assessment & Treatment

If, following the initial consultation, I feel that further assessment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is indicated, I will guide you through the next steps.

These include:

  • Sending ADHD questionnaires (Vanderbilt Scales) for both you and your child’s school to complete
  • Reviewing school reports and any other relevant information
  • Arranging a follow-up appointment to discuss the results

At the feedback session, I’ll explain whether your child meets the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis and offer clear, practical advice. This might include support strategies, school-based recommendations, or recommendation for onward referrals if medical treatment is being considered. A diagnosis of ADHD requires evidence of symptoms being present across more than one setting (e.g. both at home and in school), in line with national clinical guidelines.

Please note: I do not prescribe medication for ADHD on a private basis.

Assessment for Autism / Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

If I feel a formal autism assessment is appropriate after our initial consultation (and sometimes a developmental assessment), I’ll explain the process and recommend the best next steps for your child.

Please note: A full autism assessment involves input from different settings and professionals to ensure an accurate diagnosis in line with NICE guidance and DSM-V criteria. We’ll talk through this together during our first interview.

1. Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised (ADI-R)

Structured parent interview to explore your child’s early development

  • 1:1 conversation with you (parents or caregivers only)
  • Takes around 2–3 hours
  • Covers development, communication, behaviour, and routines
  • Helps build a detailed understanding of your child’s history
  • Informed by school reports and any prior assessments
  • Led by me personally

Preparation includes reviewing any background reports you’ve shared before the session.

 2. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)

Play-based observation with your child

  • Conducted by two professionals (e.g. myself, a Speech & Language Therapist, or a Clinical Psychologist)
  • Lasts around 1 hour
  • Observes how your child communicates and interacts in different settings
  • Provides insights into social communication and play
  • Combined with ADI-R and background info for a complete view

After the session, I’ll meet with you to explain the findings in a clear and supportive way.

You’ll also receive a detailed written report with:

  • Diagnostic outcome (if applicable)
  • Personalised recommendations for home, school, and local services

Information Sharing: You’re welcome to share the final report with your child’s school, GP, or NHS services to help access the right support.

Please Note: I don’t see children with acute medical needs—my focus is on neurodevelopmental assessment and advice.

Developmental & Neurodevelopmental Assessment

Using Schedule of Growing Skills II

For children up to 5 years old
Duration: 90 minutes (including consultation)

This comprehensive developmental assessment is suitable for children under the age of five and is based on the Schedule of Growing Skills II (SOGS II)—a structured tool designed to evaluate key areas of a child’s early development.

The assessment involves age-appropriate play-based tasks and interactive observations, and it helps to identify your child’s strengths and any areas where further support may be helpful.

After the session, you’ll receive a summary report outlining your child’s developmental profile, along with tailored advice and recommendations.

Whether you’re seeking clarity, a second opinion, or next steps, I provide practical guidance tailored to your child’s needs. This may include advice on referrals, navigating education plans (such as EHCPs), and working with schools or other professionals to ensure the right support is in place.
